Well, spring is beginning to beckon and my new Better Homes & Gardens magazine just arrived with the latest roses. My greenthumb is starting to tingle!

Can anyone give me advice in growing roses in this red clay we call home? What are the best amendments, fertilizer, etc. Also, are there any diseases common to the area?

Looking forward to your advice and comments.

Michelle

The very best way to plant roses:
Find the sunniest place in your yard (they love the full hot sun) and replace the clay with Miracle Grow Garden and Vegetable Soil (not potting soil). I buy the big bags and use it for all my flowers. Water your roses early in the morning so the leaves dry before nightfall (prevents fungus), and keep them moist during the hot summer months, just don't overwater them.
Roses like plenty of root space, so dig a large hole so the roots can spread.
My roses are beautiful, and the talk of the neighborhood
Happy planting
