Wikipedia is not generally the most accurate of sites but just read:
"In September of 2007 the FBI reported that South Carolina's violent crime rate was the highest in the nation[5], with Simpsonville leading the state in reported car jackings."
Closing in NJ on October 29th and expecting to have purchased a house in SC by then BECAUSE it's affordable and can give me much more than elsewhere and still have change of seasons. But crime????????

I know it sounds weird, but it is a different kind of crime. Alot of them are domestic abuse, and the other ones are crimes against people they know. There are actually very few crimes against random people. It does not make it ok, but most crime happens between acquaintances. Its a great place to live, I would not say it if I did not mean it.

Crime happens everywere. FWIW I feel safer in Greenville/Mauldin than I did in Chicago. Isn't that what matters?

It's all probability.
Crime can happen anywhere, and the vast majority of SC people do not commit crime. But you are more likely to be a victim in SC than in any other state, and that's just a fact.

this is will stop entirely when people are no longer punished for self defense and civil law suits for personal injury are no longer allowed for those committing a crime.
