My husband and I looked at a house on the border between these two neighborhoods yesterday and really liked it, but we've heard mixed reviews on that area of town in terms of safety. Everything from it being a nice area in the process of becoming nicer due to an influx of young families buying and refurbishing the houses to being on the border of drug territory. Thoughts?

My mother lived in Woodland Heights for 51 years until moving in with my sister about 2 years ago. I still have relatives and a number of close friends who live there and love it. My sister-in-law recently retired from northern VA, bought a home in Woodland Heights and is in the process of upgrading. It's an older neighborhood that has gone thru the usual migrations. For a number of years, all the residential attention on that side of Sptg moved west of I-26, with new development. As many of the original homeowners began to "age out", some of the properties began to show lack of care with landscaping, exterior maintenance, etc. That began to change with young and middle-age families moving in. I suspect that slowed down a little with the current housing situation, but Woodland Heights remains a very good west-side location, close to schools, shopping, etc. In the end, good location always wins out. Crime? no areas are totally exempt, but IMO not a big issue. My mother was very comfortable living there, and I did not have any reservations about her being there. I'm not a realtor, but with the prices I've seen recently in that area, it would seem to be an excellent opportunity for long-term appreciation. HTH
