Yeah, and that is system wide for over 8000 employees! That is down from a high of 600+ job openings months ago. Really tells you how bad things are here in Gville.

Layoffs would be bad.....156 job OPENINGS, last time I checked, is something good.
Yes, the economy nationwide is in trouble.

I need a daytime labor and delivery RN job in G'ville. And there's never an opening according to that website. Not sure why.

I work for GHS and those are still very crappy numbers compared to what it used to be. Stop trying to sugar coat things!

Growth is growth. Be happy. GHS is a growing healthcare system.

It's just attrition, not to get excited about.

I applied to GHS back in January for a financial analyst and was turned down. Most places don't send rejection letters, so I was glad to get one, and GHS is the only one who told me why:

"We have decided to hire from within"

I appreciate their honesty with me. But, like I said, the fact that GHS has job openings does not mean it's good news. In any business larger than a very small business (which GHS is certainly not), there are going to be job openings when someone quits, retires, or gets fired for cause.

My previous employer has a few job openings. I was chatting with my previous boss recently and mentioned this, and he said it's attrition. He said in many cases when someone leaves, the position disappears as well (like a half-way layoff, not laying off the person working there, but not filling the position when he leaves). They are in a hiring freeze, which means only the critical positions get advertised when someone leaves.

Tell that to the few Registered Nurses I know who were hired recently (within the past few months), NOT from within. According to these acquaintances, there were others as well. Sure, growth has slowed during this recession, however despite not hiring one or two of the people on this forum for various reasons, GHS remains a growing healthcare system in a growing region.

If you had seen the numbers of job openings at GHS for the past few months, this is a DECLINE not growth!
