MORE IMPORTANTLY - Greenville has very poor air quality, ranking as the second worst city in the United States for allergies, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) in 2006
I was looking for property in this area but now, having seen that, I must reconsider.
^^There are a lot of trees in the area that create pollen. What do you expect? No allergies? Also, Atlanta and Charlotte have far worse air quality than Greenville and those rankings about our air quality are skewed due to where the EPA put their stupid ranking machines.
If you visited, you would not be so quick to say the air quality is poor. On the contrary, the air is much better than most growing cities in the South. I have lived here for several decades and never developed an allergy. The times people with allergies suffer most are in the early Spring (pollen) and early Fall (pollen). Where the notion comes from that our air quality is poor, I don't know. Please visit any place in person before formulating ideas. It is the best way to be sure about any place. I know some people who use negative statistics to steer others, while they also avoid mentioning the positive statistics that would really help others understand a place better. We are very thankful for the abundance of rainfall as it produces the lush greenery that makes this one of the most naturally beautiful places in the entire nation. If the air quality is so poor, why are so many professional outdoor enthusiasts moving here? These are people who view health and wellness as the most important part of life, and they are NOT investing time, money, and their lives without thoroughly researching everything about this area first. I recommend visiting before assuming and deciding anything.
^^I agree. For instance, why would one of the best bicyclers in the world and Greenville resident George Hincapie be creating a state of the art bicycling facility in northern Greenville County if the air quality and allergies were so bad: http://www.pladadet.com/
