I went to the auto show today. While it was helpful to look at several new models close-up under one roof and sit in their driver seats, I was disappointed that more brands weren't represented. There was no...

BMW (!!!), Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mercedez, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Volvo, and others.

Maybe the rain made me gloomy, but I was somewhat underwhelmed.

I blame the economy. At least Greenville has an auto show like this along with the Euro one at BMW too. Columbia and Charleston don't. Those manufacturers have never been at the auto show sadly except for Kia and VW which were there for only one year each. I think Mitsubishi might have been there once too. It's a lot smaller this year mainly due to GM getting rid of half of their brands. I did like the exotics they had though. You can see a map of all the car makers that they have at the auto show this year here: http://www.motortrendautoshows.com/g.../floorplan.jsp Oh and go on Friday night instead of Saturday or Sunday as they have free tickets at Bi-Lo for that night only. Saves $5-$8 per person. Kind of hard to be underwhelmed when the only thing I had to pay for yesterday was parking.

You'd probably enjoy the Euro Auto Festival at the BMW factory then.

I was thinking the same thing as the OP, even considering shows here several years back. Why the grandiose name when so many nameplates aren't even represented? Granted last year's was better, but on average, I think ours leaves something to be desired, especially BECAUSE it's the only one in the state.

Are cars at the Euro Festival new ones like at the circuit auto shows (good-in my mind), or restored/modified older ones (bad, in my mind)?

I have to agree with others here. I wasn't expecting anything like the large auto shows I use to attend in the NYC area. But even so, I was pretty underwhelmed. So many missing manufacturers, no concept cars, very scant on the exotics, and even the classic cars weren't all that special. So was it worth the $19 for tickets and parking? Seems cheap enough, but not really. I definitely won't bother next year.

Did they still give complimentary one-year subscriptions to Motor Trend magazine like they did last year?

Yep. That's just what I need...another periodical showing up each month that I won't really read. I declined. But it's a pretty good perk for someone who wants it.

Why didn't you go on Friday night when it was free to go to the auto show?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't know about the free admission until you posted on Saturday afterward. That won't do much good until next year... IF I remember. Doubt I'll go again next year, even for free.
