Reading The Greenville News a day or so ago, I noticied in the classifieds section that Trader Joe's East has applied for the sell and consumption of alcoholic beverage off the premises for a site on Woodruff Industrial Lane. If Trader Joe's East is the operating company for Trader Joe's stores in the eastern United States, it may be possible to see one adjacent to Academy Sports & Outdoors in the near future.

Trader Joes East IS the operating company for Trader Joes stores in this part of the country. Proof: Trader Joe's making plans for county site | Charlottesville Daily Progress (http://www2.dailyprogress.com/cdp/news/local/article/trader_joes_making_plans_for_county_site/41495/ - broken link)

From above article link: The grocery company has applied for a permit to sell beer and wine from the location. Alcohol Beverage Control officials confirmed that a license application to sell alcohol to take off-premises has been taken out by Trader Joe’s East, doing business as Trader Joe’s.

Hmm. I am trying to place where they would be. Are trader joe's large? There is some vacant land between the gas station and Capris but that seems too small.

Great breaking news! Great location, IMO, even though it gets congested there at times.

Trader Joe's are fairly small and their product assortment very focused. They are usually less than half the size of a Whole Foods. They could be taking the storefronts next to Academy?

OMG! What wonderful news. I hope they get whatever is needed to get a location. You've made my week with this news. Wonder if this would take the place for the one that was suppose to go in Magnolia?? Wouldn't it be nice to have two TJ's? Be nice if there was one in Greer (HINT, HINT TJ EXECUTIVES!!!!!)

The average TJ's store size is 10,000 sf., about a fifth of a modern full-size supermarket. They also only carry about a tenth of the items, yet they average about $1500 a sf in sales compared to Whole Foods $750 and much larger store.

This is great news, but my oh my, can you imagine additional traffic on Woodruff Road? It is already a parking lot in that area.

My thoughts exactly. It will be hard to justify going through that traffic fustercluck when Whole Foods is pretty easy to get in and out of.
