My condolences to you and your family.

My neighbor's wife passed away this weekend she was a very sweet woman, who always invited me into their home for the holidays if she thought I was going to be alone.

Hoping you get some comfort from knowing people on here are thinking of you. So very sorry for your loss.

my husband died ten years ago. we had been married 36 years but had known each other since childhood- over 40 years. you're correct in saying that although his death may have been anticipated the reality is something different
you sound as if you are a strong person. take your time, lean on your friends and family as needed but spend some alone time as well. as i'm certain you realize becoming a single person, after a marriage, is a process and a journey of discovery.
i wish you comfort and healing.

Default Many thanks

Thank you all for the warm thoughts. You are a great bunch of people and I consider you all my "other family." Your replies have comforted me more than you will ever know.

When I went to the funeral home yesterday to make the final arrangements, the funeral director called the Veterans Administration in Quantico, VA to see if my husband would qualify to be buried in a VA national cemetery. He was. All the arrangements were made by the funeral director who was wonderful, a genuinely tender-hearted and kind man.

Today I picked up my husband's remains (his wishes to be cremated) along with the US flag. He will be buried at the Veterans Military Cemetery, this Friday, with full military honors. I think it will be a wonderful tribute and honor for him, and it is the last gift of love that I can do for him.

Chattanooga is 80 miles from our house, so I can visit often. I just wanted to share the military service with you all. It will be a great honor for a great man.
