I seem to remember Ruger making a lever action based on the 10/22, used the same magazine.
I handled one at the gun store a few years ago, the lever seemed crude in the making.
I always liked the AR7, made by many companies like the AR15 and AR10. My friend had one made by Armalite I enjoy shooting. I remember back in the 1970 when a art teacher brought one in to show us in 8th grade. Can't bring firearms to show and tell anymore, darn it.
I always liked the Springfield M6 Survival Rifle 22lr/ 410 Scout Over/ Under. It is only a one shot but looks great for backpacking.

Yup, 96/22 it was or is called, I forget if they still make them. Loosely patterened off the Savage 99 action. They also made a 96/44 44 mag with a 4 shot rotary mag. I'm not fond of hammerless lever actions but generally Ruger makes a solid product.
I have an old Marlin 1897, the grand-dad of the 39, the bore is not great but the rifling is visable anyway, otherwise it's in good condition, actually shoots OK.
One can hardly have too many .22 rifles. I think I have a few of every action type, including the old Browning T-bolt and a .22 short only Belgian autoloader, the one with the tube magazine in the stock and the very thin receiver, ejects out the bottom. Interstingly this one will function on CB caps, they feed and eject just fine, thanks.
Slightly off topic but for the 10-22 and similar, consider the Williams receiver sight instead of a scope. Particularly if you don't want to spring for a really good scope like a Leopold. Try it you'll like it.
I've had many .22LR rifles over the years. A few years back I bought a Rossi pump with the hammer, this by far is my favorite for hunting ptarmigans. I still have my 10/22 from the mid 80's. I can't believe how much the 10/22's sell for now.
I went to a few gun shows looking for a Rossi pump. I found quite a few worn out Winchesters, a few in mint shape. The Winchesters started at $800 and just got more expensive.
I did find a Rossi in .17 for $200. I went back at the end of the day but they had packed up already. I understand the Rossi is made under the Puma name now. I have a sweet old Rossi 410 double barrel with exposed hammers.
I think I paid about $350 for my Winchester 62. That was about 15 years ago though. $800 for one of these it would have to be about mint, if not NIB.
Getting back to leverguns - if you can find a Marlin 39 for a decent price, grab it, they typically shoot well, if you look around you'll find both the rifle and carbine version out there, they also take down with just that one big thumb screw on the receiver, making them easy to pack, clean, or even repair, although I am trying to remember when I saw a Marlin break any parts, and am coming up with nothin'. They are good guns.
