I'm going to get back at him by buying a 17 HMR barrel for either an Encore or Contender. It won't be what we can call a tactical 22, but it will be accurate and that caliber really reaches out.
If you get the chance to try that .17 on coons let me know how it does. I am interested in making a coon dead meat in one shot and only one shot if I need to. Summer coons suck in the corn.
Well, it's not a tactical .22 either, but I have a Henry lever action .22 that is very accurate. A quick stroke of the lever, and it's ready to fire again. It'll hold 15 .22 LR rounds in the tubular magazine, so it has a decent capacity, too.
Of the .22 rifles I have, it is probably the most accurate, and one of the most fun to shoot, though I enjoy them all. I haven't really found any of them that are particular about the ammo I use, but that's not the case with my .22 pistols. Of the .22 pistols I have, and others I've used, many of them are particular when it comes to ammo. CCI MiniMag ammo seems to be most reliable across the board in my pistols, but even that ammo gets jammed in some of my guns some of the time.
I have a Savage MkII Bolt action .22 Bipod and a scope. While living in SC I used to shoot squirells in neighbors garden [my bedroom window looked over it ] with subsonic rounds. I lived in the city and would have had a lot of cops around if anyone heard the shots.
Here in Texas I have a friend who had some trouble with prairie dogs. I would hit em 50 to 100 yards away

Always worth keeping a few boxes of .22 shorts around the house. When I was a kid I had some boxes of BB caps and CB caps. Be worth a small fortune if I even had the boxes now.
I liked a Russian brand of sub sonic .22's, but can't find that brand anymore. It was good in the garden on varmints. That stuff burned nasty dirty, but since childhood i learned to clean any gun right after shootting one rnd if that was all I shot. As a teen I hunted salt marsh ducks and had to clean shotguns that hadn't been shot at all.
Tactical .22LRs are for mall ninjas. All the money they spend dressing them up, the are still a .22LR. A rim-fire is not reliable enough for self defense either. Too many FTFs, stove-pipes and misfires. 100 yards is too much. 50 yards is pushing it. Don't be the douche on the 100 or 200 yard range hoggin' it so us guys with .308 WINs and the likes can't shoot. We are waiting on you! Pew-pew-pew-pew!!
I'm just relaying the message, that's all! See all those guys pacing around you on the 100, 200 and further? They are getting fed up with you and the other guys. They would like to shoot before dark. But I brought my FN A3 G. You won't get to use or shoot it because Bobby is cracking his "tacticool" Rugger 10-22 he has a grand in trying to be a wannabe Sniper. I'm just telling ya man! LOL Don't shoot the messenger!
I think someone's a tad upset because I can throw a thousand rounds of 22 down range for what it would probably cost to throw 50 down with your precious FN. If ya don't like it find another range. The messenger isn't worth wasting lead on, I pay for my range time, I'll use a it as long as I feel like it, I'm just tellin ya man
Oh dear I have spent time bustin balloons with my Ruger 10-22, that some guy with a 36x scope mounted on a 45 pound .233 bolt gun gave me to set out, at 200 yards.
He scoffed my ruger with a fixed 4 x scope.
Later after he became upset that I broke one balloon right after the next, was his gun was sited for better than a mile with that foolish 36 x scope. Man he needed targets on the moon.
I needed a EMT to help me keep up with blowing up balloons! If it were legal I could take Moose with .22 sartin!
Same guy tried to impress me shooting at 1/2 flat washers, claiming his shot went thru the big hole in the middle, as he tossed them up and fired a nice S&W pistol.
To get even, I tossed up a bunch and blew them to hell with a 12 ga loaded with 7 and a 1/2 shot. We didn't find many of them, after.
