Hacksaw. Cut the pellets out and then just dump into the trash. As kids we used to save the powder and make flash bangs.

How many are we talking about? Your county might dispose of them for you if they have a hazardous waste program.

I just dump the pellets and shoot the wads at a target in the backyard.

Every local PD I've seen will take questionable ammo for proper/safe disposal. Cutting them with a hacksaw is NOT one of 'em, IMO....

If they are in the original boxes and those boxes are old you might get a second opinion as they might be worth some $$ to a collector.

Wade's gun shop in my town takes ammo that people want to dispose of. I don't know what they do w/ it. If you call around to local gun shops, especially those w/ ranges, maybe you'll find one that will do it. Personally I'd rather not have face-to-face contact with the po po if I can avoid it.

I agree that IF there is a box still that it may be of collector value. If not a bucket of water should do it. These are probably paper shells .... You can pry open the crimp fold pretty easy with a nail file.... That will dump out any shot, and allow water in faster.

Cop shops should work too, but before i walked in with said shells in hand i would call on a phone and ask. These days i can just see you getting busted as a terrorist. All sorts of upset SWAT guys very pissed for not being in proper dress LOL

Not my department...

We had no way to get rid of them either.

BTW, we tried the military....they also wouldn't take them.

The local PD here will take them, no questions asked. Of course, I've never had any ammo that spoiled. Even today I'm shooting ammo dated back in the 40's and 50's. I've had shotgun shells get a little green after a few times of being out in the duck blind, or on a boat, but never any rifle or pistol ammo.
