I do appreciate Walmart's pricing for most ammo; aside from .22, the availability is getting better, as well. What frustrates me is trying to find an employee to help me with ammo purchases. This morning, I was at a Walmart at 8am; they had some pistol ammo that I wanted. I scoured the store to try to find someone who could page the sporting goods person or the manager; there was not an employee in sight in the entire store, except for 2 checkout clerks who were much too busy. So, I left. It sure would be helpful if they would put "help" buttons (like Lowe's has) in departments where there is little to no manning.......
Walked into walmart tonight to get a Pizza and decided to walk back to the Sports dept. The associate was unpacking ammo and I saw they had CCI on the shelf. He said we have two boxes of 1000 each of Win, M22. I bought both for 50 bucks each. .05 a round. Nice haul.
As a Chicago resident I have to go out of town to find ammo. Today I had to go to a town outside Indianapolis for something and on my way back I saw a wal-mart and and decided to stop for some ammo. Their shelves were wiped clean, but there was a Gander Mountain next door so I went in there and saw they had tons of it. I stocked up on range 9mm but they had a 10 box/customer limit.
Wal Mart still sucks here. They have nothing worth buying. 22bucks a box for Rem 223 55 gr ball? Lol...naaa. The sport stores like Scheels are doing ...ok. Tbey have bulk ammo, 22s are still like gold though. 5.56/223 is easier and even cheaper to find. Tons of shotgun and common hunting stuff, at not so gouging prices, is available now.

Scheels has bulk M855 62 grain 5.56 right now. 500 per thou. Ugh.
I have 500 unloaded Hornady bullets in reserve and 2000 cases, but bullets are as hard to buy at a reasonable price as the loaded stuff. I can buy at Walmart 223 Tula steel case for .26 each. When I have to pay 22 bucks for 100 bullets thats .22 for just the bullet, add in .05 for a primer at current prices and then .02 for powder, I can shoot the tula and not worry about picking up shells. I was going to buy a set of 7.62 dies but I cant come close to load them for what I can buy them at walmart for. I also have a conversion kit x2 for my left hand AR and Right hand AR so I can shoot 22lr out of them. Its amazing how accurate they are at 100 yds.
I've been lucky the last few times during the middle of the day walking into Wal-Mart, just checking to see if they have any .22....both times they did, so I now have 600 rounds of CCI mini mag....gonna go shooting this weekend!!! Woooo Hooooo
It seems they are getting ammo but it sells out fast. Not as fast as two months ago but still by noon its gone. Some of the 7.62 sits on the shelf for a day or so but thats about it.
These were in stock at two stores for a couple of days - I do not need any - so I left them for others ...
You have to set your local store
When most people reach their "stockpile amount" and quit buying - ammo will be on sale
