I am in Wyoming, and living here, there is no planning for me. When I find time, and feel like it, I'll just slip into town and get a tag, stop on the way home and get a deer. Like shampoo, I will repeat as many times as necessary.
Last year, the area I live in, was "Unlimited" doe/fawn tags for Private Property, either Muley or White Tail. We have plenty in the area and it's not difficult to get onto private land, specially if you are local. I have never hunted a trophy in my 30+ years hunting in Wyoming, so I don't put in for the draw, but instead, just purchase tags over the counter during season.
What area are you going to be hunting? Good luck. This last snow event should melt off and make it a little better in the next few days.
By the way, those birds were brought down with my "high dollar" Stevens, Model 94, made by Savage. 12 ga with a 37 inch barrel. Thompson rear sight and a luminescent front optic sight. I picked it up at a pawn shop in Charleston South Carolina for $90. Then put a turkey choke in it and the sights on it. I used it in the turkey shoots held at night. In 2 months, I won 54 frozen turkeys and 55 frozen hams. Donated every one of them to the American Legion and their food donation program for low income folks before Thanksgiving.
Heading out to deer camp on Thursday. Will be up hunting along the crest of the Sierras for about 4-5 days in the Mokulumne Wilderness here in California. Hopefully no tag soup again this year. If I get lucky I'll take some pics and postem the following week. Good luck to everyone still out there. Maybe some quail hunting as well.
Then maybe get in some duck/goose hunting at the end of November.
My Moms husband just left for an Elk hunt today. Got his buck a couple weeks ago. Nice 5 point. Yielded 200 pounds of right tasty meat.
