I think it's funny that this gentleman is flying with guns throughout Europe and NYC and Washington DC are his biggest problems.

Best of luck DM and welcome to the US.

Unless these are very expensive guns, or very sentimental, I would sell them where your from and buy them new when you get here. Save all that mumbo jumbo and red tape. The guns you stated seem to be very common guns. I bet you can get better versions here at a cheaper price. I would not go though the hassle. Or you could keep your guns in the country of origin, and buy new here. Have them in both places. If all you have are the guns listed I bet your savings would pay for about half that stash alone. Now if you go back you still have guns in your home land. If you leave here you can always sell your guns here fairly easy.

It's not easy (not at all !) to own firearms in italy, it's a reactionary country founded on bureaucracy and incompetence, but I know the law, here, and I can deal with the matter.

Thanks for your welcoming.... I feel more akin to the American mentality that the European

yes at least SC is going to be more gun friendly then NY, i'd assume NC is as well.

If you land in Charlotte, you'd have about a 3 hr drive down to Charleston which isnt bad.
If you make Atlanta your final stop, figure 4-5 hr drive over to Charleston.

I've never flown with a weapon so have no info on it, perhaps contact those airports directly to see what they'd suggest?
I can say for driving, perhaps check SC's law enforcement site (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division ) so you are transporting it correctly and avoid any legal issues if pulled over.

DO NOT DO THIS!

You do NOT want to take possession of the guns in NY. It is ILLEGAL for you to have them in the city. If it's discovered that you have them, you WILL go to jail.

That is BS. You can have guns in NYC. Federal law gives you 24 hours to move them through any state/city as long as they are unloaded and cased and locked in the trunk of a car of other safe place. I hear this all the time. Don't get caught with that rifle for hunting if you drive through NYC. BS. Federal law gives you safe transportation from where your gun is legal to where your gun is legal.

leave the guns in europe, buy new guns when you move to the USA

it's very uncommon to import personal firearms like this during immigration to the USA

NY and NJ (which he would have to pass through heading south) are known for respecting this right?

Just land in NC or SC. Save yourself a lot of trouble.

Und ja, Willkommen in Amerika hoffe es gefällt euch!

Viel Glück!
Wrong - neither Dulles or Reagan are in Washington, D.C. Both airports are in Virginia. As long as your declarations/paperwork for the weapons is in order, you can safely and legally land with them in Virginia. I've flown out of Reagan with handguns in my checked luggage with no problems or hassle (flying into Charleston, incidentally).
