I have a S&W 686 as my first revolver and never regret it. It chambered for .357 magnum but can shoot .38 special as well. The best thing about a S&W revolver, compared with others, is its trigger. The single-action trigger is a light as 2-3 lbf. It was just a pure pleasure to shoot. You'll get spoiled with its trigger.

Other have mention Model 10, it chambers for .35 special only which is fine if that's all you intend to shoot. I have one bought it on a S&W day with a LGS a few years ago just slightly above $200.

Gats handed down through the family are, at least to me, sort of special.

But you don't have to agree.
Special would be his ARs and shotguns he never treated it particularly well. I guess for me, a beater is anything that’s reliable and doesn’t have to be treated preciously the way you might treat a Garand or a Kimber or a Korth. S&W revolvers sorta fit that category, esp. if it’s already a bit worn like mine is. While I haven’t looked up values, I doubt that anyone would find a 4” Model 10 particularly interesting.

Another “next buy” popped into my head: I forget who made it (Taurus?) but I recall someone made a .22 Hornet revolver that seemed like it would be a fun toy.

OK. Taurus makes the "Raging Hornet" revolver, the Hornet is a great cast-bullet cartridge. I am not sure if the Hornet revolver has a provision to fire .22 rimfires or not. I don't know that it does, if you care about that.

That’s the one! I’d doubt there’s a way to rim fire that though. Which is ok, since I have the rimfire angle covered. Best $75 I ever spent was on a Llama Comanche .22LR with a 6” barrel. I think it was made in the late 70s or early 80s...I’d have to check again. Anyhow it came in its original box with original papers. Beautiful finish, I’m not entirely sure it had ever been fired before I got it.

First, I need a gun as I don't have any before I go deciding which gun to buy next. I've been out of the gun scene for over 10yrs now. So, I don't have a clue what guns are on the market. I know for one thing that I'd like to get a .22 rifle. I use to have one when I was younger but, someone broke into our house and took it. anyway, its gonna be difficult for me to own a gun again as I was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Well - I can check that off the list...here's my new (to me) Colt Frontier Single Six Shooter, from 1883
