Yes you are right. I am going to Lincoln MT tomorrow. A guys has two 336 .35cal's both older JM stamp micro-groove. The right price too. I'm buying one of them.

I'll keep looking for a Marlin .357 for fun- but not at the price they want right now, no waaaay.

You can load cast bullets in the 35 Remington, light loads, and it will perform similar to a .357 Magnum in a carbine, but of course can't use the same ammo in carbine and revolver.

If the price is good enough, you might go ahead and buy both of these, I doubt you would regret that move.

I understand that the Remington factory is working again, under new ownership, and the first thing they are building is M870 shotguns.

I just bought one of the .35's. This guy is liquidating his lever actions. He had over 50 of them but he already sold the .38/.357. He does have a few .22's and a .450 Marlin..

Got this last year at a LGS. I think it was $629 + tax + background check

Marline 1894C in .38/.357 magnum, holds 9 rounds of . 357 Magnum or 10 rounds of . 38 Special

Uberti lever guns are beautiful with a smooth lever and I think I paid around 1200 for my 1873 357/38.

That's what I'm looking for without having to mortgage the house, lol. I think I'm going to wait until Ruger fires up production on the Marlins to get a .357/.38. It would be nice to have a JM stamped Marlin, seeing as though my .45/70 and the .35 are JM Marlins. Oh well.

I paid $550 for a JM stamped 336 Marlin in .35 Remington last week. Every JM .357 I see right now in decent shape runs over $1,300. And I lucked out this morning- went to Sportsmans Whorehouse and there was a whopping 2 boxes of Remington CoreLokt 200gr bullets on the shelves. I bought them both.

Call me greedy, lol.

That's an excellent buy at $550! I bought a Marlin 336 in 30-30 from a fellow gun club member and I think I paid about the same price for it. It was an earlier 70s era Marlin.

Will you be using the. 35 Remington for deer?

What I really like on a lever gun like a 30-30 is a receiver sight, or peep sight. These work on most Winchesters as well, they are usually drilled and tapped for it at the factory. Lyman and Williams both make good receiver sights, either with target style knobs or with coin slotted "tamper resistant" settings.

Some newer lever guns have a Picatinny rail and can use a Scout type scope, "try it, you'll like it". The new 336 "Dark" comes to mind.
I always liked the usability, but as I never expected a .30-30 to be a tack driver, it never bothered me much to have it on risers (I bought it this way). I don’t expect a lever action to be tacticool. Now give me a modern rifle and I’d take another stance.

Any such thing, since I like oddballs, as a 7.63 Mauser or a Tokarev-chambered lever action? That could be fun too.

Probably not here. My go to is my Browning X-Bolt. Back when I lived east my dad used to hunt this thick bramble along woodlines- that's where this gun comes in handy.

Maybe if I am hunting dark timber I'll take it, but I'm usually out in the eastern part of the state in the open country and coulees.

Well, if it works for you, I guess it works for you. The 336 "Dark" does have some "tacticool" elements, but, the Picatinny rail does allow for mounting a Scout type IER low power scope, which may be the best hunting sight you can get for anything but sniper-like ranges. And it comes out of the box like that. For all Winchester lever guns except the Angle Eject, my strong preference is for a peep sight, a Lyman or a Williams. Not many guys use peep sights anymore, but they are a big step up in practical accuracy from the "buckhorn" type open sights most M94 carbines anyway came with. It's *possible* to put a scope on these Winchesters, but it takes considerable gunsmithing, destroys any collector value, and is just plain fugly, at least the ones I have seen were.

i doubt any European rounds like you mention have ever been put in a lever gun except as a custom build. The old Winchester M92, I have one in 25-20, that's a round you don't see every day, wonderful accuracy, good small game round. 32-20 would be similar.
