My local WM here in coastal Georgia usually is one of the best stocked in the area when it comes to rifles and ammo.
Even now it has nearly a full case of firearms although ammo is gone as soon due to high demand but it gets ammo regularly.
Anyway, yesterday I was talking with the sales people and specifically the department manager and she told me that they will probably d/c selling firearms in the near future.
I was shocked and am not sure what to make of this. It hardly seems likely from a business perspective since the area has lots of hunters, fisherman, a military base and a couple of large public state gun ranges nearby.

Well, without getting too political, the issue is politics.

Walmart has proved to be unreliable after several emergencies and unrest. Smart folks started stockpiling ammo a while ago. Its worth having a couple thousand rounds set aside if for no other reason to keep practicing.

Marksmanship is a perishable skill, use it or lose it.

I was browsing in Walmart last night and looked in the ammo cases. Completely empty. Well except for some airsoft ammo.

Walmarts in metro Detroit have not sold firearms for over 10 years. Some stores still sell muzzleloaders in the fall.

The retail giant, which sells firearms in about half of its 4,700 U.S. stores, said customers can still purchase guns and ammunition upon request even though they are no longer on display.

“We have seen some isolated civil unrest and as we have done on several occasions over the last few years, we have moved our firearms and ammunition off the sales floor as a precaution for the safety of our associates and customers,” a Walmart spokesman said.

If Walmart stopped moving firearms and ammunition off the sales floor during unrest and disasters (Anybody remember the twin sisters of misery (Katrina & Rita ?) everybody (except thugs & looters) would be a lot safer.

My local Walmart (Pensacola) has not had a gun area, but to my surprise there was a brand new one being stocked today. They had some shotgun and one box of rifle ammo.

An off-topic question. As I recalled during Katrina the local Sheriffs were confiscating guns. How would this made it safer for the law-abiding victims to the thugs & looters? I couldn't help but to wonder, if a similar event occur in my area, do I surrender my guns? What would happen if I don't?
