Here's the problem......
My scalp is really dry and itches constantly. I'VE TRIED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING.....at Sally's and Walmart that I can find. I've gone to the Dr and he prescribed Nizoral. I've used it but it doesn't work. It dries out my hair and scalp.
My problem is I need moisture on and in my scalp. I've used tea tree oil which is way too greasy. Light hair moisturizing lotion which is still greasy and hot oil treatments that seem to work temporarily for about two days or so. I'm beyond Head and Shoulders which is for dandruff and isn't my problem. Tea tree shampoo doesn't help it just feels good.
Anyone have any home remedies or know of any vitamin supplements I can take to help.
I should add I have purchased some products from salons but I can't remember the names of them.....

Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mothers...Trader joe's will work. Use it as a hair/scalp rinse full strength or diluted. You can rinse your hair or leave it full strength and let air dry. The vinegar smell will quickly dissipate as your hair dries. Olive oil can also be mixed with ACV for the hair rinse. This will help your scalp AND your hair. ACV also help with hairloss.
In addition to a rinse it is also recommended to drink 1 Tblsp of ACV in a glass of water 3xday. It is acidic therefore to equal the ph you can mix 1tsp of baking soda in the glass of water and ACV mixture (preferrable to be a ph of 7). I recommend you brush your teeth following ingestion as ACV can be hard on the enamel so not leaving it to coat the teeth is best.
If you have any reservations, call your doctor. I'm sure they will be able to advise you on the phone if your health would prevent you from using ACV.
Good luck!
ACV is used for TONS of things dermatological, both as a topical and ingestible. ((ACV with Mother's is an organic type. The mother's is the stuff that floats on top and is the active ingredient. When pouring it, do not remove the Mother's and let it float back naturally as it pours. Do not disturb it as it floats on top.))

Yes, it was a dermatologist and unfortunately I don't have insurance anymore so I can't go back.

Thanks for the info. You seem to know alot about it. But it seems that apple cider vinegar makes my scalp dry as well. It has the similar effect as the Nizoral. I've never taken it orally but used it as a rinse (half water, half vinegar). How often do you suggest to use it???? I tried it for 2 months, first using it twice per week then reduced it to once because it seemed to dry my scalp out.

Sorry for you itchiness. I sympathize. Deef1 was right: ACV is good. Look on www.earthclinic.com for more info on apple cider vinegar, and make sure you're using a "raw" vinegar with "the mother," not the kind you find in a regular grocery store. ALSO, cold-pressed, virgin coconut oil is very moisturizing. It also has anti-microbial and antifungal properties. I would put two tablespoons on your scalp at night, and lay on a towel. Wash it out with a gentle shampoo in the morning. Some other thoughts... The ingredients in Nizoral and other prescription and over-the-counter anti-dandruff shampoos are known to be hard on your liver. That will give you incentive to get this figured out and to quit using them. Don't ignore this part: Maybe you are causing the itching and dryness by what you are using, instead of what you aren't using. My itchiness got worse with the use of Head and Shoulders conditioner. If you read the ingredients on things, it's no wonder that we can become sensitive to that big laundry list of unpronounceable chemicals! Maybe you could get a bottle of gentle baby shampoo (and conditioner) that doesn't have any additives or preservatives, from the health food store. Kind of a "de-tox" from all those nasty chemicals. Chemical sesitivities and allergies are becoming more common. Let us know if/when you figure it out. -cityflair

Topically since you have such dryness, I would use it in combination with the olive oil. Taking it internally will also speed the healing. As much as I stand behind using it, each person can have medical reasons that could pose a problem. Hopefully it will benefit you, but I encourage you to first research it and then make a quick call to your doctor and ask is there any reason your body would not allow you to try this. For most people there should be no problems trying it. It is natural and has many benefits aside from treating your situation. Just make sure you don't have anything that would preclude taking ACV internally first.
Keep us posted on how it goes, problems as you go, etc. I'm sure there are others that have also had experiences to assist you. I just really try to go naturally when possible. Another product that I use for skin ailments that works really well is Manuka Honey. http://http://www.honeymarkproducts.com/?gclid=CPChpo7k5KQCFQlm7Aod8Ec4Jw (http://http//www.honeymarkproducts.com/?gclid=CPChpo7k5KQCFQlm7Aod8Ec4Jw - broken link)
Manuka Honey is honey made from bees pollinating from the Tea Tree, so it is obvious why it has great healing properties. I attached the company page that I use to purchase my products and include some research and articles on Manuka Honey.
As for the ACV, I noticed cityflair has posted a link for you to research it and suggested virgin coconut oil. Check all of them all out. Hopefully you will find something that will help you. Keep us posted!

I will check out this link. Thanks.
You could be right maybe I am using the wrong things in my hair. I will get some baby shampoo and conditioner as well to see if that helps.
But now I just recently colored my hair. I hadn't for about a year trying to get rid of the itchiness. I don't think I can use ACV because of the color I have in my hair.
Do you know anything about the color they have at the health food store? I bought some at Whole foods before but not sure if it is different from other coloring products.
