I'm talking socially to a hairdresser who was trying to get me to go to her salon and, I guess, cut my hair. Uh...no...I've been growing it for 5 years, cut it way too much and just now stopped from grabbing the scissors every month like I was to trim it. No split ends, so that cutting it stuff isn't going to fly.

Anyway, she was saying that I should use some treatment (conditioner?) that hairdressers often use that will get deep into the shaft of your hair and soften it so it's silky soft. Anyone know what she is talking about?

I've done coconut oil (extra virgin and organic), Morrocan Oil and anything else I can find. But what is she talking about?

I'm not sure what exactly the product is that she is talking about. She is just trying to get you to spend $$$. If the oils are working for you, then keep on.

Yeah, I'm sure you are right...but still wondering if there is something that would penetrate the shaft of the hair and make it softer. Gosh, I sure hope a hairdresser is on this forum.

I don't know and I'm not a hairdresser, but my friends swear by Moroccan Oil.

Well, there are deep conditioners that people leave on for 5-15 minutes.

deep conditioner - Google Search=

I was on another hair forum, and a woman put molasses in her hair to make it softer. I tried it (it was very messy) and it made my hair feel sooo soft after washing it out.

Smooth 'n Shine Therapy - Silk Fusion Sixty-Second Critical Repair 1.7#

I used this. It is in the 'ethnic' isle. It did make my hair soft and shiny, but it is formulated for chemical and heat damaged hair, so I don't know if it would help. It has proteins in it, so it will make the hair stronger. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

I'm washing my hair in a few minutes, so I'll put some vinegar in a cup of water and rinse. That usually works so well as clarifying shampoo.
But I still wonder what "magic elixer" the hairdresser claims she has.

I don't know what product your hair dresser was referring to but I happen to LOVE Aussie's 3 minute miracle conditioner (moist). It makes my hair very soft!

Redken "Soft Hair" shampoo and conditioner works very well (I think it's Redken), it really made my hair soft and I had pretty damaged hair.

The only thing your hair can truely absorb is protien. Keratin is the one you want to use...Deep conditioners that really get into the hair shaft need heat (to open the shaft of hair) and protien to reconstruct the cuticle. These are often refered to as reconstructors.

If you know her or have her salon number, ask her. Then you can google it and look at the reviews. I am curious what the product could be too.
