If you have longer hair, how often do you get your hair cut or trimmed? (shampoos, color)

I have very thick, wavy, shoulder length hair. I go to my regular hairstylist about every 2-3 months for a trim and shaping. I like it in layers especially around my face. But I'm in my mid-50s, and just feel I look better with layers in my hair.

When I was much younger, I had very long hair and had it trimmed once or twice a year at the most, but never colored or processed my hair ... instead just a lot of sun exposure at the beach. Didn't know any better in those days.

It took awhile to learn to control the frizz and manage my hair with layers. For me, a good smoothing shampoo and conditioner helps the most. Sometimes after I wash my hair and it is still a little damp, I will use a smoothing creme (just a very little amount). I like to let my hair air dry for several minutes or more, and then blow dry it. I recently switched my blow dryer to one of those new "ionizing smoothing" ones (I think that is what they call them), and it made a HUGE difference with the frizziness. Finding a good hair stylist who knows your hair type helps too. My hair stylist has the same type of hair that I do, so she seems to relate to problems associated with thick wavy longer hair. It takes some experimenting, but with time I've learned to manage what use to be a big PITA.

PS - Also, a big ceramic ionic round brush helps with the end layers at the shoulders (only near the face) to make them soft wavy curls. I use the brush when my hair is almost dry and use the blow dryer to dry the ends while using the brush. Also took me a while to get use to doing this successfully, but I love the end result. Gets easier with practice. Sounds like a lot, but is fairly quick once you get the hang of it.

Haven't been to a hairstylist in 2 decades.
I trim my hair approx. every 2-3 months, incl. my bangs.
My hair is shoulder-length or a little longer
(and straight, so I give it waves by twisting it up into buns & sleeping on it overnight).

Every 3-4 months with a bang trim in between. My hair hits about half way down my back. It really depends on your hair though. If you notice split ends or the shape starts to look bad you should probably go more often.

I never cut my hair. The hair products that I use smooths the split ends and they look good. I have not cut my hair in 15 years.

Now that I have bangs, every six weeks (should be more often, but I just can't be running back for trims every three weeks). Prior to bangs, 3-4 times a year.

Anywhere from twice a year to 3-4 times a year. I get light layering in my hair, and some pieces cut in, starting at about cheekbone-length, but it still looks fine even as those pieces get longer. I try to limit the highlights to 2x/year because of cost/hair damage, and I limit the amount of heat styling. If I run my fingers through my hair, and it "snags", I know that I definitely need a trim.

I cut mine twice a year. Usually 4-6" is a trim for me. When I start sitting on it, it's time for a trim.

I wear a one layer blunt cut straight across right at the small of my back.

I haven't had a real haircut in about a year, but I usually get a trim every 3-4 months. I use a lot of products to reduce split ends.
