First, I am 66, white with white/silver hair. And I am sick of looking at all this white hair with no 3-dimensional look, so I wanted a couple of streaks put in to look more youthful and get rid of that all white/silver look.

The gal put black streaks in my hair--not thin highlights but chunks of hair which is what I wanted. She probably put 8-10 foils in, and, amazingly, put them in the exact places I would have had I been able to do it.

The streaks are pretty stark black, tho, but I cannot think of any other color that would look appropriate in my hair. My eyebrows are grey-black and my natural color pre-dye was coal black--even tho I have a very fair complexion (think Irish coloring here).

Can anyone think of any other color for streaks that might look better?

Your hair sounds striking. If you just had this done, maybe you need a week or so to get used to it? If you think the lowlights are too harsh, would a dark brown work better?

Dark brown will look better. Or two - three dark browns within the thick swatch.

Yes, I would do the dark-medium ash brown. get your eyebrows to a medium brown not black as well and you will probably like the look. Especially if you use eyebrow pencil to shape, a lighter brow is much easier to look natural than black and then your highlights will complement.

A friend suggested auburn, but I vetoed that one. I'd do the purple first before auburn for me.
But I do like the idea of adding some brown. Will give that a shot when I see the gal again.

I'd skip the auburn, if for no other reason than shades of red being the quickest to fade. Your hair sounds very striking!

Thanks...well, all that silver/white gets old and you look old with it not matter how pretty the actual hair is. I think the streaks kinda youth-it-up some..haha!

I recall Liz Taylor in the late '80s or early '90s doing a black-and-white look and I really liked it. Much better on her than the blond she switched to later.

Ugh...that blonde...eeeewww..so did not look good on Liz. I guess everyone around her must have been afraid to tell her, cause you know she wasn't doing her own hair. Her hairdresser should have been taken out and shot.

Now that you mention it, I think I do remember Liz with the black and white streaks...cool. I'll try and find some old photos on the net of that, thanks!
