Somewhere I heard that it is better to have slightly oily hair, instead of freshly washed clean hair, when one goes to a salon to get hair colored. Supposedly it holds onto the color better. Anyone know if this is true?

It's not so much for your hair, but for your scalp. You're less likely to get scalp irritation/itchies.

According to my hair dresser it's true. Apparently the color holds better to the follicles of slightly dirtier hair than clean hair. For instance, usually I wash my hair every day or every second day. When I'm about to get it colored however, I get it colored a day or two after washing.

Like weezy said however, I've also heard that it has to do with your scalp (the color won't stain your scalp as badly if it's slightly oily). Either way, just do what your hair dresser suggests!

It can make for a more even color but they can do a pre-treatment for that. Its more for scalp protection as weez said. I find it just makes the color wash out faster. The pre-treatments actually do help the color when I used it on freshly washed hair. Does your stylist use them?

The color solution will leave your hair feeling clean and nice. I always thought it was because it would overstrip your hair of natural oils or something!

My color says to wet hair before applying color, but I don't do that....I seem to get a better result coloring dry hair.
