My hair is naturally black, but now it's a dark brown and even lighter in the sun. I haven't dyed my hair in 5 years, but I' wondering if blow drying it everyday and using a straightening iron and curling can lighten my hair?

The answer is yes. Hot water and too much crap in our water doesn't help. Buy a protective sunscreen for hair before blow drying.

Burning the hair over time will lighten it and weaken it.

Drying it out even without sun exposure will make the hair appear lighter. With age you hair color can lose its depth before going gray. A diet that is not nutritionally sufficient can also make your hair grow a lighter shade.

You could try:
Brilliant Brunette® Liquid Shine Luminous Color Glaze® from the John Frieda® Hair Care experts

Its also comes in clear if you don't want to alter the color at all. It adds depth and shine without the hair coloring commitment. If you have frizz at all it does tame it down a touch as well.

p.s. if you get it on your fingertips or hair line try swabbing with alcohol to remove. Whitening toothpaste works really well for the fingertips, cuticles and nailbeds.
