I used the purple shampoo from Sally's for too long, and it turned my hair the best gray color. My hairdresser said not to use it each time, but it was pretty....just sayin'.

Have a look at this link White/Silver Hair Photos - HairCrazy.com I see you are in El Paso so you should be able to get these products very easily. Hope this is still something you are looking for.

The manufacturer says to mix 1 oz of the toner with 2 oz of 20 vol peroxide, but DON'T, as you only want the pigment, you don't want anything with peroxide or a "developer". However, you can use the toner WITHOUT the peroxide if you dilute it with shampoo (or part shampoo with part water) so that you just get the deposit of the silver pigment stain.

Mix a capful (cap that is on the toner bottle, it is very concentrated) with one ounce of a silver base shampoo like Shimmer lights or Shiny Silver, mix it in well. Shampoo as usual with regular shampoo, towel dry well, then gently work the silver mixture thru (don't rub into your scalp as it can stain it), leave it on a couple of minutes, add a bit of water, lather well and rinse well. Don't do it too often as it can build up, maybe once every couple of weeks. If you need a bit more silver, you can add another cap or 2 to the mix, just be careful as it can pick up too much and it can build up. If you have long hair, don't do the ends every time.

Your hairdresser can perhaps do this for you, but some of the younger ones I have found do not know the technique for just depositing a "stain" without the peroxide and will think you are nuts.

I think Sally Beauty Supply has the Wella Creme toners. There is also a silver shampoo and conditioner that I like called "The Silver Fox", last place I found it was Vermont Country Store. Yes, I miss Silk and Silver also. The Clairol Borne Blonde Lotion (non peroxide) Toners (I think Sally's may still carry them) used to have a shade called Sweet Silver that you could use similarly to Silk and Silver, but I don't know if they make those any more either. Good luck!!
This is interesting. Depositing a stain, I didn't look at it like that. Guess that is just what's happening when using the shampoos that are tinted blue/violet.
I am into my fourth month laying off the dye. I keep my hair Jamie Leigh Curtis short. I really dig the way it's coming in. Nice mixture of grey.

Is there a shampoo without damaging sulfates that will enhance grey hair to look more silvery?
My hair is fine and naturally curly. Regular shampoo = sodium laureth type with detergents,
do iintense damage in just one washing. Regular conditioner will poof my hair up like a dandelion.
Is there a natural silver producing product for my damage prone type of hair?

I use Optima Tea Tree Organic Shampoo & Conditioner (Free from parabens and SLS) alongside my Pro Naturals hair repair system. I find that the argan oil leave in treatment if used after every shampoo not only protects my hair from heat styling damage but it controls static and makes my hair really shiny. By the way I am also trying to find a toner that will enhance grey hair to make it more silvery so will be following this thread.

Lin1313 do you put the argan oil on immediately after shampooing towel dried but still damp,
Or, after its totally dry? I have some but am not sure when to apply.

I ended up buying a silver lights product made by Jhirmack, and sodium lauraute is the first ingredient in this purple poo, HOWEVER, after rinsing it out I rewashed my hair with my daily shampoo Hair One For Curly Hair, which has been very kind to me, allowing my hair to grow because it doesn't dry it out.

The silver shampoo did seem to turn up the volume on the whites and greys.

If you're looking for a purple toner maybe you'll get lucky with a purple cellophane treatment. Ask a color specialist about it. Good luck!

Here's an offbeat suggestion coming from a guy.

My hair is "salt and pepper."

Being a little vain, I want to lessen the "salt" and increase the "pepper" in my hair. There's a product called Touch Of Gray. No mixing or anything. It comes with an applicator comb. You comb the gel in your hair, wait five minutes, and wash it out in the shower. No fuss, no muss.

I hate those obvious dye jobs. This is subtle and understated.

Thanks Clark... its a great idea. Anyone who isn't ready for the tinsel has your suggestion for keeping things subtle for an extended stay. Bravo!

The new trend is to pronounce your greys.. to brighten, sparkle and shine like polished sterling.

Its so hot and sexy that its become a near $700 process for younger women to take on their own
"Shades of Gray"

You should look into adding some blueing to your favorite shampoo. The bluing is what those other shampoos have as the active ingredient that brings out the silver.

Google this to reseach. add bluing to shampoo

Then look at getting some Mrs Stewart's blueing

I towel dry then put a couple of drops on my palm, grab a handful of hair and concentrate on the ends and only halfway up the shaft and do this until my whole head is done. I leave it to be absorbed whilst I have a cup of coffee and then I use my hair dryer and straightener/curler.
