This is my first summer wearing a wig (to cover thin hair) and today at 80 -90 degrees I could hardly stand it. What do you do? Sacrifice looking nice for comfort? Wear a hat?
When I wore wigs due to chemo, In the summer (in the Deep South) I sewed hair extensions (the type sewed in a long horizontal line) around the inner band and shorter hair where bangs would peek out.
It looked nice and was wonderfully cool. I had friends in my support group that followed suit and we would laugh when we took the hats off since it looked so silly. to hair hairy hats in out laps!
I wear a wig whenever I leave the house, 365 days a year. I've done so for the past 30 years. My tip: Don't wear a wig cap under the wig. Instead, use wig tape under the front edge. It's double-sided tape, but it's gentle on the skin and pre-cut to fit that spot. You change the tape out once a week. Caveat: If you do this, and you are expecting your hair to grow back, it might not grow back in the spot where the tape is. This could be happening to me simply because I've been doing it for so long.
So that will help keep your head cooler. Also, consider a tight-wefted short-hair wig, over a loose-wefted long hair wig. The shorter the hair, the more air that can circulate.
Avoid wigs that require you to set them and use hair spray.
Make sure the wig is DRY after washing it, before you wear it again.
Hey, I just joined the wig sorority myself! After wearing them for one whole week - in Texas, in the summertime - here is my biggest tip: Don't wear a wig cap.
Also, go for very short, pixie styles that keep hair out of your face and off your neck.
Finally, be sure your natural hair is very short under the wig.
Enjoy! I am having a blast with new styles and colors!

Mine doesn't bother me. I only worry about windy days.
