Recently, I purchased a Pantene 2-in-1 Shampoo/Conditioner combo and finally used it tonight. I like it well enough, but am still on the fence as to how well I think it conditions my hair.
I normally have used shampoo, and then a separate conditioner (while intermittently deep conditioning my hair, in the process).
Theoretically, both options should have the same effect but I'm not so sure...
Have you found that one option works better than the other? If you typically use the 2-in-1 S/C combo, which brand works best for you?
My husband and kids all use the Pantene 2 in 1. My husband because his hair shaft is thin and short and that's all the product he needs, and my kids because they need something better quality than kids shampoos, but don't have the patience for a 2 step process.
I use a good quality separate shampoo and conditioner matched for each other. I have used the Pantene in a pinch, and while I don't find it awful, I feel like it leaves my hair a little heavy and flat, almost like it doesn't fully rinse out. Most colorists and stylists I have always use say the 2 in 1's do not work particularly well, then again, they are also trying to sell products.
I prefer 2-in-1 because I find using a separate conditioner weighs my hair down a bit more. (Like what Texas describes in terms of it feeling heavy and flat.) And I have not-so-thick/very straight hair so it is very apparent. I also feel my hair is greasier with just a straight conditioner and I have very greasy hair already.
I usually buy Herbal Essences or Pantene---depends on the sale.
I would steer clear of these 2 n 1 products as it not going to make your hair healthy.
Unless you use it once a week like a regular conditioner should be applied, the hair will become dull due to the built up conditioner.
Go in a salon, you will not see them using 2 n 1,
2 n 1 is good if you are a traveler but better off with travel size separates,

2 in 1 products are good if your hair is really dry, or bleached/coloured, and it needs the extra conditioning. They do "coat" your hair over time, though.
I have fine hair, and 2 in 1 products will weigh it down and make it droopy after a couple of weeks. I need to use a separate shampoo and conditioner, and just use the conditioner as needed.
I use the Pantene 2n1 and a Pantene conditioner afterwards
