Hello everyone. Now I'm not sure if this section is for ladies only or if males such as myself can post here.
I was born with extremely thick black hair (thanks to my moms side of the family). Back in 2011 I went to a new barber shop which had just opened. The lady there cut my hair and then said damn your hair is so thick would you like me to use thinning scissors? I said yes just to try it out. I loved it to be honest the texture it gave to my hair was awesome.
Anyways fast forward to somewhere around 2013. I hadn't used thinning scissors until 2013. I went back to the barber after nearly 2 years. I went in nearly every 4 weeks for a haircut. Every single time I went in I got my hair thinned out. This went on until 2014 and during some sessions the barber got a pair of razors and went over my hair with it. He done that on 2 or 3 occasions along with getting thinning scissors in my hair as well.
After a while I started noticing that my hair is not as thick as it used to be. It became very lifeless. When I even cut my entire hair with a number 5 all over I could see patches of scalp in the light in an uneven form.
After all this rant I was wondering will my hair ever grow back to it's original thickness or will it stay like this forever? The texture has very very slowly thickened up but nothing like before. I haven't used thinning scissors for about 2 years now maybe a bit more.
Will my hair grow back to it's original texture again? Thank you ladies and gentlemen for taking your time to read through all this.
Thinning scissors do not damage your hair any more than normal scissors do. You are probably simply naturally losing some of your hair.
Yeah, that tends to happen to both men and women as they age. It's possible too that it might just be changes in your hair (not just the growth rate). Mine changed as I got older, and because of some medications I'm on.
Oh, I hate it when you go to the hairdressers and they want to use the thinning scissors on you! I always tell them I don't want it, as I don't like what it does to my hair.
I've had hairdressers that want to use it on my fringe, for some reason. But it just sort of makes the hair stick out all over the place.
Thinning scissors only affect the hair shaft, not the scalp or follicles.
The part of your hair that grows is within the scalp (hair follicle). Whether your hair is cut with thinning scissors or a hedge trimmer would make absolutely no difference in its growth.

exactly what it did to me as well. Made hairs stick up all over the place.

I know, it makes me wonder why they use it at all. The worst thing though, is when they don't ask you. Suddenly they've produced the thinning scissors out of nowhere, and are scraping it through your hair, taking big chunks out of it!
