1950s

Don't you agree? Those styles did nothing to enhance attractiveness. In fact, they detracted.

NOPE. It's a tie between the 60's and 80's. (Shudder)

The fifties hairstyles were ugliest. It was more like a non-hair style that did nothing for anyone. Just parted on one side or in the center and then combed, just flat with no style. Some people had perms which looked stupid because their hair would be perfectly straight except for some fake curls all around the bottom.

The fifties hair styles could make a nice woman look plain and even ugly. The only fifties hairstyles that weren't too bad were ponytails.

Sixties were bad too. It must have been a reaction against the flat, plain styles of the fifties. All the rollers and sitting under the hair dryer and then teasing your hair to make it puff up. And then finishing it off with a can of hairspray. But at least it was a style, unlike the fifties plain non style. And most people in the fifties didn't go to the extreme that you see in the pictures.

Also, in the 60s, there were lots of styles for putting your hair up. I don't know the names of those hairdos but putting it up is very often a lot better than some ugly hanging down style. But the fifties wins ugly hands down--look at pictures of Mamie Eisenhower. First Lady so she could have had any style but she chose typical plain ugly fifties non style that looked awful on anyone.

I intended to refer to Mamie and also ponytails in the OP but you nailed it.

However, I liked a lot of the 60's styles, not the teased "bubbleheads" or those tall wasp nests but think Jackie Kennedy.

I had forgotten about them! Yes, the 80s, the decade of "humorous" hairstyles. I remember looking and saying "What?"
