Natural hair gel? (lotion, damage, ingredients, alternatives)

Can anyone recommend hair gel made with natural ingredients that doesn't damage hair or healthy alternatives to hair gel?

You could try using aloe, I guess, but I couldn't vouch for the texture.

Look up flax seed. I know you can cook it with the right amount of water, strain out the seeds, and get a pretty good gel. I did it once and used it for hair setting lotion, but it was a lot of trouble.

I use the aloe vera gel you get for sun burns (the clear, not the green :P). It works great.
