I'm about to make my second trip to a master colorist. She's awesome. So far color only though I might get a cut today.
She has her own place, sets her own prices. Has no one else working there. So...why tip her? I mean I will because she expects it. She's not paying "the man". It's all hers. I'd rather pay a little more and have thetip built in. She does great work or I wouldn't go back.
Last time I asked about the percentage thinking she might forgo. No she expected one. Ah well. I'll play the game. Off I go.
Money talks and if they know you don’t tip, they might not be as inclined to do a good job.Tipping is no guarantee of a great haircut, but it probably helps.
I've had this dilemma too. I've just gone ahead and paid the tip in the hope that it would put me on the preferred customer list (if there's such a thing). He does a great job for a reasonable price and I'd stick with him even if he raised his prices so he's worth it.
My stylist sets her own rates, and because I tip her well, she has never raised what she charges me, even when she has upped her rates, overall, in the eight years I've been going to her.
It is my understanding that tipping a salon owner is a no no. They can set their prices.
You are correct.
