$12 bucks does it for me at cost cutters on Wednesday sale. For what hair i have left. Used to be a $10spot, but they jacked it up 2 bucks.
Im mortfied by these prices!
Fortunately my OH is a no frills person too.
Women's cuts are inexpensive, too, when they're simple. A bang trim is generally free for me between cuts... It is fast and easy, takes a stylist no time.
What you are looking at with an appalled eye, here, is primarily color process procedures, which are by nature highly detailed and time - consuming, and tie up a stylist. Time is money. Same with hair braiding and things of that nature. Of course they'll cost more than standard male services. A stylist can see at least a half dozen male clients (bare minimum) in the time it takes to do cut and style long hair, so a base color, and balyage / painted on highlights for ONE. Rates go up with how painstaking a process is.
Your "a little off over the ears" snip, in and out in under 10 minutes, is not really comparable.
I live in the Seattle area. I typically cut and color my own hair, and have been doing that for decades. About 6 months ago, I actually went to a salon. I looked around first. I wanted a cut and color- no fancy version, just all-over color, as specific types of color were more expensive. The cheaper chains in the area I checked into were a total of $100. The salons recommended to me by friends who go on a regular basis were around $170-210. I ended up with a place I thought did a good job, and the total was $115 pre tip.
In toilet city, I mean Las Vegas, most hair cuts start at $50. Colorists run anywhere from $250 - $800. Mr. $800 caters to the D-List, reality tv stars. I've found the average to be $350. This is the most expensive city I've lived in for hair and the worst, lowest quality stylists I've ever met. Had five different stylists (all with 5 star Yelp reviews) completely destroy my hair. Now, I'm forced to do it myself.
My stylist owns the salon and a wash/cut/dry is 75 bucks. Her color is 200 bucks and she confessed she doesn’t like to do it. She told me with my gray, highlights would work perfectly, and cap systems work well. She also said she knew I would hate the upkeep of all over color.
She’s right and I’ve been doing it my own highlights for years. I’ve also learned to cut my own bangs. I can’t stand going every 6 weeks.
Where exactly in South Florida are you finding color, cut, and blow dry for $130?
Most places are $275 for that.
