I don't think you're over-reacting, except that you shouldn't really feel humiliated.
If I were you, I'd write a huffy letter to the manager/owner, saying exactly what you told us. That was a pretty offhand way to treat a long-standing customer, and even tackier that they made the receptionist call you because your stylist was too cowardly and tactless to speak to you when you were there.
Let me be the contrarian here. This exact thing happened to a friend of mine years ago. At first she was angry and then she decided to go to the doctor. There was a malignant melanoma on her scalp. Your hairdresser does not have a medical degree and does not want to be accused of practicing medicine without a license or be sued...for anything. They don't make that kind of money. But they do look at hair and scalps all day long and many times they do spot a problem. My friend's hairdresser probably saved her life.
OK so you have been to the doctor recently. How much time did he/she spend inspecting your scalp? Let me guess, none.
I am just another nutbag on the internet. But I also urge you to see your doctor and ask him/her to inspect your scalp.
Negative reviews on every review website you can find. This is a horrible business practice.
