I'm over 40 and love it long. It's halfway down my back and I wear it as is. At what point am I expected to cut it and join the crowd? And why? 100 years ago women didn't have to cut their hair.

I've got a friend who's 20 and has her hair to her knees or so.

If you like the way it looks, don't cut it!

It is your hair, you do what you want. My mother felt the pressure to 'cut her hair' as a woman of a certain age. She ignored them and now has a beautiful head of long (a bit past her shoulders) curly salt and pepper hair she gets compliments on all the time.

When you get to an age that hair hanging down near your face actually pulls the look of your face down (usually around 35 it starts--if not sooner), THEN put that long hair into a ponytail, bun or some cool look.
You don't have to cut your hair anymore even into your 70's if you look at Vogue or any of the upscale fashion magazines. You just have to be honest about hair around your cheeks and chin pulling the LOOK of your face down as long hanging hair can make some look more haggard (and we don't want that, do we?).

I am 49 and have midback hair. I wear it up ALL the time. In a bun, twist,
braid.etc. I cannot wear it down. Like Tootsie said, it pulls my face down
and I feel unattractive. Lately Ive been feeling like cutting back to
just below shoulders to be able to scruch it and wear it down or at least
a half up. I have silver and blonde hair, not salt and pepper. Kinda looks
highlighted,with the emphasis on "highlighted"

I'm also in my mid forties and have been letting my hair grow for quite a while. I plan to donate it when it gets long enough, but I want some left when I do. In the meantime, it's ponytails, braids, and up-dos. I love it.
