My scalp is dry and flaky. My hairstylist says it is not dandruff. I used to suffer from eczema as a kid (if that helps). Any good products to alleviate this issue? I color my hair by the way, so I'll need a product that protects color treated hair.
Thanks in advance!

It could be an allergic reaction to the dye. I would go to a dermatologist to ask. You don't want to make it worse. Neem shampoo is good for dry or eczema covered skin.
iHerb.com - Product Details - Auromere, Aloe Vera-Neem Shampoo, 16 fl oz (473 ml) (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=2223721442509565257&at=0 - broken link)
I have used this and like it for when I get itchy scalp from hair style product reactions. (some hair sprays give me eczema if it hits the scalp)
With this code: GOM620 (takes five bucks off for first time customers)
Grand total shipping and everything is 4.15$!
I would check thier other products too.The prices are really low and I do believe that 4 dollar shipping can have a few more items tacked on. I think its a UPS flat rate.
You can try neem oil too but raw it is not deodorized and can be stinky I think. When they process it for soaps etc the take out the smell. I think that one has a baby shampoo type smell if I am remembering correctly.
I would just use the neem on the scalp. Your regular shampoo on the length.

If you want to get it/check it out in person whole foods or other health food store places should carry it. Hope it works for you. That neem is great for that skin problem so if it ever pops up grab a neem soap bar for the shower. (health food store item)

I had a similar problem and I also color my hair. My hairdresser recommended a shampoo with tree tea oil and it works well. However, if you have major concerns, you need to see a dermatologist.

Do you recall the name of the shampoo?
Thanks!

Paul Mitchell Tree Tea Special Shampoo. I think it was about $9, but I had a coupon from Super Cuts.

I get psoriasis on my head and I've bough every product known to man for treating dry scalp.
Head and Shoulders ~ Left my hair nice but seemed to irritate my scalp more
Paul Mitchell Ti Tree Shampoo and Conditioner ~ Seemed to fix the scalp problem but wasn't so good on my hair.
Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo ~ Not really impressed with the smell. Had it worked better I could have lived with it but all in all not for me.
I've had stuff from PPS and KPS, all of which was pricey and not really suitable.
There's a whole plethora of others too but I can't remember half of them and have given most of them away. I've spent a great deal of money on trying to get a shampoo and conditioner that works on my hair and my scalp that doesn't kill the color.
So here's where I'm at now.
I currently alternate between Lush Godiva Hard Soap and American Cream conditioner, Body Shop Ginger Shampoo and Honey Conditioner, and Sunsilk Color Lock Shampoo and conditioner.
I never use any shampoo or conditioner for more than 3 days in a row before I swap, this seems to help for some reason.
I also find that what I eat and drink effects my scalp so to that end I avoid certain foods and have increased my intake of good fats in things like salmon and nuts and I also take a fish oil suppliment and Vitamin E. If I forget to take them for a couple of days my scalp usually starts to play up.
It's a really difficult problem to solve and I suspect results vary highly between individuals.
Good luck with it.

I would see a dr before using anything like that so you know just what you are trying to treat.

leavingcali, I forgot that I also use BBW's Volumizing Shampoo in their Aromatherapy line. It is not for color-treated hair, and I think that might be why it works. I have to color my hair every 3 weeks now and this shampoo is not harsh. Also, be careful with conditioner. I haven't used the conditioner that goes with that shampoo, but I plan to try it. I think the more gentle the shampoo and conditioner, the better it might be for you.
