Well, I can't advise on the Brazilian straightening - but I know a half latino/half black lady who gets the Japanese straightening, and it doesn't make her hair pin straight unless she flat-irons it to achieve that look. It actually makes her hair very versatile - she can wear it however she wants from straight to curly without any frizz. If she doesn't do anything special it has a nice open wave. It's very attractive and glossy.

Talking keratin

Brazilian Keratin cures the hair, doesn't leave the hair pin straight but naturally straight. I know someone who did this and I was amazed at the results. It also lasts for so long!
