Are Executive Women with very long hair held back at work? (cut, haircut)

I have been told that my hair is to long if I want to move into an executive or senior management position. I am told that most middle aged women on the management track have shorter hair. I have to agree but do not want to cut my hair short. Do you agree that if you want to be taken seriously as a senior executive woman you should have a bob or shorter haircut. Especially if you are over forty?
Sadly, image is an important part of our worklife success, be it how much makeup you wear, what clothes you choose, and what your hair looks like. And very long hair on middle-aged or older women is usually not highly regarded. (I am NOT going to get into a discussion as to whether this is right or wrong. There are a multitude of threads and arguments about age limits for hair & clothing styles.) It is often perceived as an effort to look too youthful, an indication of an "I don't care" attitude", or a little on the "aging hippie" side.
So in my ideal world, our appearance wouldn't impact whether we get promoted or not. But the reality is that it does. Obviously, we don't know what your hair looks like, but if it's VERY long, you might want to consider a slightly shorter style in order to be taken seriously. Not saying "short;" just "shorter" and stylish.
Very long hair and I mean really long hair looks silly to me. For some reason it makes the person look like a devout christian person. There is nothing wrong with any of that it is just kind of how it is and all part of the "game".
Yes, you'd need to cut your hair. You would not fit in with really long hair, as an executive. Men would not fit in with goatees or long beards. It's just reality.
