Hi all, I'm in the process of returning to Hampton Roads after being gone for about 7 years. Every other city I've lived in since then has had some good local blogs that cover local news that isn't being reported by the dailys or tv news as well as some of the more off beat cultural stuff or just generally progressive happenings.

Well, for Hampton Roads I've only found AltDaily.com. Please tell me there are more! Does anyone have any favorites? (please no "mommy" or realtor blogs) I'll be living on the Peninsula, but stuff based on either side of the water will do.

Thanks in advance!

I always liked Portfolio Weekly when it was in newspaper form. They still have a site...
Port Folio Weekly: Hampton Road's source for news, events, today's photo, funny video, contests, and daily quotes.

Found this one too just by Googling. I am sure there are others out there.

Ok, I checked out Portfolio, and its stories look like they could come from the DailyPress.com or Pilotonline.

So does anyone actually read any blogs or other microlocal sites? How do folks stay on top of what's happening in the next town over? I went through the BlogNetNews.com site for hampton roads and found Avenging Archangel by a guy from VaBeach that focuses on transportation issues on the Southside and the left/right political divide (he's on the pro transit side). Besides that all I could find were political windbags, realtors saying everything is great, and mommies talking about the life and death struggle of making sure jr. gets in the right play group because the rest of his life depends on it.

Please let there be something better in Hampton Roads than this or am I just asking for too much?

I enjoy the local blogs here in Richmond and agree that HR doesn't have much. Hopefully people start some soon.
