My wife and I will be moving to the Norfolk area in the next couple of months. We have a 1yr old and two dogs, mid 20's, and love the outdoors (ie--hiking, parks, biking). I will be working at the Naval Station. We are looking for some info on the following:

--Safe neighbors with affordable rent (3bd)
--Close to parks, good schools, restaurants, malls, movie theatre
--Not too urban

Any info would be helpful.

I would avoid North Suffolk and Western Branch due to the commute. Great Bridge area of Chesapeake and most anywhere in VA Beach sounds like a fit for you.

Norfolk has some nice neighborhoods as well but is mostly urban.

I'm not in the military. The company I will be working for is doing some construction on the base.

For some of these areas mentioned, what is the commute time in the morning around 6-7am? Evening 3-6pm?

Are there any realtors/rental agencies you recommend for the VA Beach, Chesapeake areas that would be a good source for house hunting. Looking to rent at first but probably purchase after 1st year.

Thanks.
