Hi!

We are about to relocate to Williamsburg and are very excited about it. We have a son who will be attending 4th grade, so I have been looking at school districts closely ... I understand that Lafayette may have lost it's charm to Jamestown High - would you consider that accurate?

Our focus in terms of districts has been:

- Matoaka / Hornsby / Jamestown High
- Grafton / Grafton / Grafton
- any elementary that feeds to Tabb Middle / Tabb High

I have seen historical postings regarding schools, but wonder if any parents could comment for children who have been there in the past few years ....

Some of the homes we are looking at are in the Governor's Land subdivision. What is the perception of the crowd there?

Thank you VERY much for the input!

Check out the York High district in York County which includes the village of Yorktown and the Marlbank Cove and Settlers Crossing neighborhoods.

My kids went to DJ Montague, Hornsby MS and are now at Lafayette HS. I have been very pleased at their experiences at each school. I hear folks talking about Jamestown being better but all the Lafayette HS parents I know are extremely satisfied. Its hard to go wrong with any of the choices you mention. As for Gov Land its a gorgeous community with unique amenities. ( private beach, club with restaurant, marina, golf, fitness center, tennis, hiking trails, security) not many other neighborhoods can offer that to residents.

Thank you!

Where we are, my son is in the equivalent of the "vision" program for VA ... I also hear that Toano seems to be an up and coming area.

Any thoughts on the schools there? (Stonehouse elementary, Toano Middle, Warhill High?) I understand that Warhill is a new facility with great technology.

You can definitely get more for your money in Toano. The Stonehouse neighborhood is nice with clubhouse, pool, lake, trails, golf, tennis, fitness, etc. There are also a few neighborhoods that have larger lots and no amenities. The downside is the distance to major stores, restaurants, movies, sports , etc. Its at least a 20 minute drive to New Town from Toano. Warhill is the newest high school in James City County, kids can walk to Thomas Nelson and take college courses. Stonehouse Elem gets rave reviews. Of all the middle schools Hornsby seems to be the favorite. ( my kids went there) Berkeley and Toano seem to be rated behind them.
