I am moving to Norfolk next week, and want a SAFE place around ODU. After searching online for a long long time, I decided to live in Pembroke Tower, due to (1)security, (2) distance to ODU, (3) Price information online.

And I also read the discussion about it posted 2 years ago.

Everything looks good.

HOWEVER, I found a commend online today, which is written 1.5 month ago, concerning about the security of the building.

So could anybody living there give me some suggestions?? How is the situation there? Thank you!

I lived on the 12th floor. My neighbor had an issue with the electricity in her apartment, which blew out her TV set. She voiced her complaint to apartment management, who blew her off. Needless to say, she did not renew her lease. Shortly after a new tenant moved in, there was an explosion that originated in that apartment. I was out of town at the time, and the apartment management opened my unit for the fire department, who destroyed my property (which would not have been destroyed as the fire was contained in the next door unit where the fire originated). The apartment management refused to compensate me in any way. In fact, the apartment people made me make several trips to town, gave me different info each time, including stating that I would be allowed to move back in within 2 weeks. Then one day out of the blue, the apartment management gave me 1 day notice, while I was out of town, to move all of my belongings out of the unit (at my personal expense). I ended up finding another place to live near granby, and never looked back.
I never really liked the apartment complex to begin with, the old people working the front desk were routinely rude to both me and my guests. However, the lack of routine maintainence in the building is beyond rudeness of the staff, it is a safety issue, and demonstrates a priority to make money over the safety of the residents. My advice: unless you are in the geriatric age group and your time to die is coming soon anyway, do not live here.

I looked at a place there a couple years ago. The units seemed dated but well kept. I felt like I was in a retirement home...I think a lot of older people live there. That could be a plus if you like quiet neighbors.
