I've been looking on the military website for housing. My husband will be stationed at Norfolk but I am considering moving to other military housing communities. These are the ones that I've seen that I like. In Little Creek-I like Villages at Wellings Court, Sandpiper Crescent, and maybe Shelton Circle. In Oceana I like The Villages at Midway Manor and Midway Manor housing. In Norfolk I like The Villages at Whitehurst Farms and Ben Morrell. Can anyone tell me what the areas around these communities look like? Are they descent areas? Are they nice areas for small children? Are there shopping centers nearby for clothing and grocery, malls, entertainment? Are the schools nice schools? Anything information that you feel would be valuable. I have 4 children ages 7,8,9 and 2 mth old. Safety is very important. I also am interested in putting my kids in some after school activities like dance class for my girls and karate for my son. We will only be living in Military housing temporarily. The lease for housing is 6 mths so hopefully by then we will be better acquainted with VA and have found some housing.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Are you sure you get to choose where you want to live? In the past they just stick you where (if) they have room. The wait was also 12+ months to get in.

My husband was contacted by someone from housing and they asked him what areas he is interested in. I saw the waitlist on their website and there is only one out of the choices we want that have a 12 month wait.

I know this thread is a few month old, but if you are still looking for Karate-class, the Dam Neck Annex Gym offers karate lessons every Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. it cost $ 35.-/month.
