Hey, I'm new around and I'm looking for some fun outdoor stuff to do.

Aside from the 5K's and other marathons, what other activities are there to do? For example, hiking, community athletic events, etc.?

I'm trying to lose some weight and adopt a more active lifestyle.

If you are into mountain biking come to Williamsburg/ James City County- Freedom Park Parks & Recreation - Freedom Park has over 15 miles of hilly challenging trails. York River State Park and New Quarter Park have many miles of MT Bike Trails as well.

For kayaking try Chickahominy Riverfront Park kayaks, canoes and rowboats rent for $6 an hour or $30 a day. Even less for residents..

Bring a road bike and ride the VA Capital Trail (http://www.virginiacapitaltrail.org/page/Where-is-It.aspx - broken link)Its not complete yet but you can ride parts of it.
