I created a map on Google to show areas of the city in terms of safety. I was hoping it could possibly help those looking to move to Norfolk who don't really know which areas to avoid. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion of the various districts and neighborhoods of Norfolk based on my own personal experience with them. Also, I only used 4 shades (green, yellow, orange, and red) to identify levels of safety, so it's very general and doesn't really take into account Norfolk's tendency to be "block-by-block" in terms of crime and whatnot. Also important to remember is that everyone has a different definition of "safe". A neighborhood you may find to be dangerous I may think is safe and vice-versa. Let me know what you guys think!

Default Safety maps - notice the plural?

xGrendelx, you could end up doing this all the time.

I'd be interested to see what a safety map of Virginia Beach would look like. I've been trying to find an apt in VB for a disabled person. When he has to go somewhere, he uses his bicycle to get around. Some of the areas I've inadvertently wandered into don't look very safe.

You might want to look into the Fox Hill area of Hampton. It would be an easy commute to Riverside hosp. area. It's a family friendly area with nice neighborhoods and nice houses. Since your children are young you will find some good elementary schools in that area.
If you dont mind driving 15-20 minutes into work at Riverside (it would be a VERY easy commute with almost the whole commute being Highway roads), you could also look into the Lower York County /Yorktown area. Schools are excellent in York County School Division and there's less crime. Home prices and rents tend to be higher though because fo this. There are some nice apartment and town home communities that would put you into the great school district. Coventry Neighborhood is a great one for young families. There's an excellent elementary school. Nice walking/biking paths. A big clubhouse and pool. Easy access to shopping and dining and also to the Interstate. There are several different types of housing. Single family, attached 2 family homes (duplex style two story homes), attached 4 family homes, townhomes, and a brand new luxury complex of either apartments or condos, not sure which it is, its directly across from the elementary school (Coventry Elementary).

xGrendelx, just thought I'd let you know I'm still referring people to the Norfolk Safety Map you made. It has been very, very helpful... even after all this time.
