Hi all, my family is military of course and are looking into buying a home in Newport news area, my husband will be able to retire in 6 years. Its a central location between our families. The area we are looking at mostly is 23608 zip code. I don't know the area or schools that are good or bad. Im a LPN will be looking into places to work and Pre K for my little one. I have a 4 year old girl and an 11 year old boy. So Schools matter and would love to find a nice area to live where we can make friends and the kids can play outside with out me having to worry too much. Any comments and help is appreciated.

I live in the 23602 area in a subdivision named, "Summerlake Shores". It is the newer development of Summerlake. Do a mapquest search for Pine Bluff Drive. Also, check out the "Peach Orchard" subdivision. Both of these are subdivisions have newer (2002 - 2008) homes in a good area's of NN.

What is making you look at 23608 zip code ? proximity to Fort Eustis ? What price range are you considering ? Will you consider other areas ? If you price range allows you might want to consider York County. If you scan this forum you will see overwhelming positive comments about their school system. A commute from there to Portsmouth depending on time of day could take 45 minutes to an hour. have you explored nursing opportunities at Riverside ? I did notice several LPN openings at some of their facilities in or near Newport News here
