I know we're all in a hurry and I know the traffic in Hampton Roads causes a lot of stress, but why is everyone so angry all the time? Seems like people are just a smidge away from yelling and getting all bent out of shape.

I see it in parking lots and I see it at grocery stores and I see it on the roadways.

Do you think it's the stress from too many people in too small a space?

Or is it financial stresses?

What gives?

I'm sure traffic has an effect on folks. It did for us when we lived in the DC area and commuted over an hour a day for many years. I would arrive at work frazzled from the backups and idiots I encountered. Some days it would take over two hours.
Since we moved to Williamsburg years ago our stress level has droppped by 90%. Now the only time we stress is when we have to go all the way to VA Beach for Lacrosse games for our kids..LOL. I think I have some kind of voodoo curse on me. It seems everytime I go across the HRBT there is a backup..

Most do, but isn't it ironic that people seem to be going over it at the same time? I have found that 10 mins. makes a big difference. If I have to go to your side, I leave 10 mins. earlier than I would normally leave.

I think the root cause is deeper than just commute times. Seems to be spreading to all areas of life now.

Wonder if it has anything to do with "change?" Whether good or bad, out of the comfort zone can be down right uneasy.

I don't think it's just here. One of the easiest gauges of economic stress is how people drive. Since the recession started I've definitely noticed an increase in speeding and especially tailgating. You would think people would slow down since now is the time they could not afford a ticket or to lose their license, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

I think the bigger the city you go to, the more it may seem this way. Ever been to New York?

It was explained to me when I moved here 4 years ago that it's not speeding and tailgating, it's qualifyin' and draftin'
I just tap the brake & scare the doodie out of them
