We will be relocating to Newport News within about a month for my husbands job. He was told that Yorktown would be a good area to live in.

Can anyone suggest neighborhoods/apartment complexes to look into? Schools aren't a concern right now, but we are looking for something family friendly because we do have a 1 yr old and my older sons will be with us during the summer.

Thanks.

Yes, Yorktown would be a good location. Belmont at York is a nice complex. I have several friends who live there. They have a nice pool area. There are several other apt. complexes along the same road (Magruder/Hampton Highway/Rt. 134) but I can't vouce for them. They are older complexes. In the Yorkshire Downs neighborhood on the same road there are some nice townhouses that have individual owners, quite a few of them are rentals. You really need to drive through looking for 'for rent' signs or look through the classifieds or realtors for the rentals. This area that I'm talking about has easy and qiuck access to the Interstate, very close to Newport News border, very close to the Hampton Border, close to shopping, supermarkets, the mall, recreation, ice skateing, etc. There are several Mommies groups for the Hampton Roads area and many of the mommies are located in this area. It would be a great way for you to find out more about the communitie, meet some friends, and find playdates and activities for your kids. One group that is very prominent is the peninsula mommies group at peninsulamommies dot com . Good luck with your move here and with finding a place!
