Thirty-something couple with infant being transferred from Everett, WA in the fall. I agreed to travel down from NoVa to help find them a nice place to live. They'd prefer a SFH, but in which areas shall I look? They're looking for a safe neighborhood with sidewalks, parks, grocery stores, etc. Could someone please give me advice on the nicer areas and the ones to avoid? Hopefully something not too far from the naval base but he'll commute if needed to live in a nicer area for the family. Thanks!

Can they live on base? If not, they need to contact the housing office where they will be stationed to get the okay to live in certain areas. The housing office can also give them lists of places to live that have been checked out. Also, there is website available to military for looking for housing.

As a military brat who has lived in NoVA and HR, I'd suggest either Northern Newport News, Kiln Creek, or Yorktown. They are the better family oriented areas.
