I would highly appreciate any advice on my possible move from Fredericksburg to VA Beach area. I am considering coming down to work at GEICO (which is just slightly south of the Oceana NAS, near the corner of Dam Neck Rd and General Booth Blvd (rt. 615)

- My main question/concern is the COMMUTE (of course). I am the type of person who enjoys as much privacy as possible, areas that provide the best commutes and less congested locations.

- I have looked at Moyock NC, Knotts Island, Elizabeth City NC, Camden NC, Southmills NC, but dont know if any of these areas are nice places to live. I plan on visiting first, but dont know which areas to look at that would be a good fit. Just a little FYI - I dont have children and do not plan on having any, and do not like nightlife or busy areas. Please offer any Honest opinions in moving to any of these areas and what commuting would be like on the roads south of VB (if they are as bad as in the Norfolk,Suffolk, Chesepeake)

Magnum, you can look in those areas, and your commute won't be too bad, except 168 in the summer time, especially on the weekends. Some people do commute from NC to Va. Beach. But I am finding a lot of folks are trying to move back. the drive is just a little long! You can look into the Pungo area. Depending on your price range.. you can get some privacy there. And also in Chesapeake. Using the backroads, you can be at Geico fairly easily. Easy back country drive. Worst you'll encounter is the drawbrige at the intercoastal water way. I would look closer first, and see if you can find what you want, then move out if you can't find it.

Default Noooooooo!

Don't do it, Geico I mean, they will give anyone a job here because they have a high turnover, the money is good but the hours suck. If you start off making good money here and loose that job you will be Call Center Hopping forever. Do yourself a favor and go to Verizon.com, they are hiring for Newport News and Virginia Beach. Plus it's one of the few ccompanies that still pay you weekly and make you smile when you get a automatic raise of $1 to $2 EVERY 6 months. Also Dominion Entrprises is hiring, go to www.ask4hr.com (broken link), they are only a year old and they pay Ok, but they are still growong. I give you six months at Geico, they suck in every state.
