Hello everyone! My boyfriend and I are possibly moving to Gloucester County because of my work. I have been to Williamsburg a couple times before but that is really the closest area I've been to, and don't know much about Gloucester. I've read that it is a farm town, and I would really like to be in an area that has things to do on the weekends, such as local music, shopping, etc. I myself am a musician, so I would like to be in a more artsy area. My boyfriend does commercial HVAC work, and we also wanted to see if anyone knows if there is any work around the area for that field?

Thanks for your help!

Wow... while I don't know much about Gloucester County, that sounds like asking for a beach in the Midwest. I pass through on the way to Virginia Beach and from my narrow Rt 17 view it doesn't look like much is going on there. Unfortunately, they were hit by a tornado in April but there may be HVAC work (rebuilding efforts) for your boyfriend. As for artsy spots, Norfolk's Ghent area (searchable here) may be your closest option. Ghent Business Association

Hopefully, someone more involved with Gloucester can help you out.

I almost moved to Gloucester Courthouse 2 years ago. I live about 18 min from Gloucester Point. People are friendlier in Gloucester than the more populated areas. More country, but not trashy in general. Everything is more down to earth than suburban locales. Shopping is far better than you would expect for a town of under 4,000, since the surrounding counties come ther to shop. A couple places have live music some weekends. Williamsburg is more what you're looking for, but at least 45 minutes away. Yorktown occasionally has live music, and better beaches, the little riverwalk strip, and lots of parkland just across the Coleman Bridge from Glouceter Point. If your boyfreind has to work in Gloucester, Norfolk is too far. I've worked near there before, and I live closer to there than Gloucester. Wouldn't do it again. Parts of newport News have the shopping you'd want, and a little bit of nightlife. Only about 45 minutes to Gloucester Courthouse. It sounds like you are more of a Northeasterner at heart. Perhaps this area is not the most suited to your taste?
