Hey All, I'm 30 y o single f. no kids/no pets.
whats the best bet for housing ?
IDEALLY : I'd like to find someplace (not hotel/motel) I can stay on a *weekly* basis so Ive plenty of time 2 find sumthn I actually like ! I want to take my time and be thorough before making a committment.

A short search of the housing market has revealed :

Renting a room / bathroom in someone's private home is ALMOST as expensive as your own apt. I"m like...where do they get off charging THATmuch ??

Everyone seems to want a fullmonths deposit even if you have fair ( ie not bad ) credit

There seems to be more would-be tenants than housing available, so the landlords can afford to be picky and demanding ?

I"m not used to this, please give me tips & pointers. Also : most important if you know of a safe place to stay thats reasonably priced on a weekly basis please PM me or answer here

This is my first post, hope I didnt break any rules . I like VA so far

Sadly you're here at a pretty bad time of year for this sort of thing. Hampton Roads is a tourist area and pretty booked for the summer. Prices go up, availability goes down. What is the price range you're wanting to stay within?

Firstly, good luck with your search! Me and my wife just moved out here for the Navy so we just went through the stresses of trying to find a decent place to live.

Our search revealed that the nicer areas are going to run ~1k/month for a one-bedroom apartment. Depending on your particulars with regards to washer/dryer, parking, etc. you might pay a little more or less. I don't know of any complex that'll let you rent weekly until you find a solid place to live. Best bet seems like it'd be a hotel.

We finally decided on a place called Riverhouse Apartments and it has so far been a good fit. A bunch of young people live in an area called Ghent though that's a little more downtownish. I think those demand a bit steeper rent as well though. All in all, we're happy with the area so far and where we're living.
